Introduction to Rotterdam tour | city tour highlights

At a glance Rotterdam! Our very own ‘Rotjeknor’ We love this city!

Brimming over with enthusiasm, your guide will lead you through the hustle and bustle of daily life as you pass by the major sights the inner city has to offer (the Market Hall, Cube Houses, the Sint-Laurens Church, the City hall) On this introductory tour of the city we hope to provide you with just a taster of all that Rotterdam has to offer.

What to expect:

The introductory tour starts at Rotterdam's brand-new Central Station.Your guide will lead you via Schouwburg Square to the Lijnbaan, the very first shopping esplanade in Europe to be devoted exclusively to pedestrians. View the historic City Hall and Sint-Laurens Church from Coolsingel Street, both of which were spared the 1940 bombardment that devastated much of the city. Our next stop, via the Koopgoot subway shopping alley to the spectacular Market Hall and the unique Cube Houses. We stroll along the old harbour's quayside, with its slipway designed for ship-building and restoring historical vessels.

In the distance we see the Willems Bridge, one of the many bridges to link the city centre to Rotterdam South. The old harbour is also home to one of the city's most notable buildings, the 11-storey White House, built in 1898 and a homage to the US skyscrapers of the time.(see photo left & above) The next port along our route is the Leuve Harbour, which is devoted to barges, is home to the river taxi's jetty and also to the open-air part of the Maritime Museum. The yellow vacuum pipe of the grain elevator immediately catches your eye. Now it's time to cross the dyke, which brings us to the lively Witte de With Street, lined with cafes, restaurants, galleries and fashion and designer shops.

Many famed museums are within walking distance of the street. We conclude our introductory walk on the Oude Binnenweg, a slice of Rotterdam that survives to this day, where you can have a breather on the terrace of a pub that is over a century old. This tour is highly recommended for anybody having a brief stopover in Rotterdam. It's also a perfect introduction for newcomers coming to work or study in the city.
